Collapse of governance in West Bengal : A Report by Indicus Analytics
A report released by an economic research firm today said governance has collapsed in West Bengal as successive Left Front governments have failed in meeting the basic provisions of average governance. On the basis of official data, the report released by Indicus Analytics said all basic indicators ~ health, education, industry, services, law and order, poverty and unemployment ~ have deteriorated in the state from 1960 onwards under the Left Front government. The report , titled ‘Transforming West Bengal: Changing the agenda for an agenda for charge’, has been prepared by Prof Bibek Debroy and Mr Laveesh Bhandari. The research was funded by a Trinamul Congress member. The report has identified five “diseases” West Bengal governance suffers from ~ inability to create a facilitating business environment, ensure law and order, provide physical infrastructure, social infrastructure and manage state finances.
“Till 1960s, West Bengal was a better performing state. But now in several parameters the state is lagging behind even the most backward states. And it’s not just the state government policies, even the delivery mechanism does not exist,” said Prof. Debroy. He said 95 per cent of the information in the report is based on official data, including data prepared by the state government. The report said be it industry or services, the state has low growth of employment and poorer quality of employment. On the basis of World Bank data, the report said, for business Kolkata ranks 12 and is lagging behind cities such as Patna (9), Ranchi (10), Jaipur (3), Bhubaneswar (5) and Lucknow (6). “Huge backlogs in judicial cases coupled with alarming higher percentage of serious crimes compared to national average means there is ‘neither law nor order’ in West Bengal,” it said. The number of policemen in the state is 94 per one lakh population while the national average is 126. In 2005-06, only 27.9 per cent of West Bengal’s households had access to safe drinking water compared to Maharashtra’s 78.4 per cent and Tamil Nadu’s 84.2 per cent. The state is under performing in three critical elements of infrastructure ~ roads, electricity and drinking water. “States like Jharkhand are performing better,” the report said.
Though the report may be an eye opener (!!) a little bit, the actualities rest in pragmatic social situation all over the West Bengal. For the worthless Administration and Police Departments, the trans border mafias like Subrato Bayen ( a converted Christian from Muslim ) and others made their inroads in Bengal Life taking control over both the Politics and Business here. Thousands and lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi Muslims have been rehabilitated in the border districts as sponsored by all the political parties for their block vote. These infiltrators are obviously cut short the economic growth. The uncontrolled birth rate of Muslims here set their challenge to the state plans in the long run.
The ensuing Parliamentary Election in India made all the Political Parties Fanatic to appease the Muslims in West Bengal. Such an boundless appeasement of Bengali Muslims always hurts the interests and sentiments of Bengali Hindus. But the Political Parties treat Bengali Hindus as scape goat of the situation. Sri Buddhhadev Bhattacharya, Chief Minister of West Bengal and Miss. Mamata Banerjee , Projected Chief Minister by Trinmul Congress (TMC) are really fighting each another to prove only pro-muslim themselves against all ethics and nicety.
In the last year and specially for 6 to 8 months the sporadic Muslim attacks , molestation of Hindu girls and women , ransacking Hindu establishments, challenging Hindu rights in all over West Bengal and even in the State Capital , Kolkata could not be able the Left Government or the Rightist Opposition TMC do the right thing in right time.
It is hinting that the TMC run Districts ( in Zilla Parishad) in South Bengal have much record of oppression upon the Hindus in many ways.

Hindu outfit calls for proactive action
Indian Express, Kolkata Edition, 14/02/2009.
Kolkata: Hindu Samhati, a radical Hindu outfit, brought up with the support of Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik, celebrated its birth anniversary in Kolkata on Saturday, with the speakers defending the Malegaon blast accused, Lt Col Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya Singh.
The Hindu outfit demanded “proactive action” as the need of the hour and not “soft Hindutva.” The outfit is inspired by Abhinav Bharat. Tapan Kumar Ghosh, who had reportedly been named by Lt. Col Purohit to the CBI, is the man behind the outfit.
Giving a call to all Hindus to rise, Govindyacharya, the convenor of Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan, said: “Both the Indian and the Bengal governments have failed to save our self-respect.”
The rally, which saw the participation of Bajrang Dal activist Sailendra Jain, leader of Goraksha Andolan in Bihar Vinod Yadav, was also attended by thousands of followers.
“What he (Purohit) has done is yet to be ascertained. The telephone conversation between Purohit and Pragya is fake,” said Govindyacharya.
The outfit also arranged an exhibition displaying the pictures of alleged victims of atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
The speakers also stressed on the need for Hindu politics in the nation.
- The Oath taken by the Hindu Samhati activists in its 1st Anniversary on 14th February, 2009, at Shraddhananda Park, Kolkata.
The other name of India is Hindusthan. But we have fixed it up "India i.e. Bharat" in our Holy Constitution. Some time , we unfortunately forget India as Hindusthan. The Dacca, Chattagram, Karachi or Lahore all were the part of Hindusthan, once upon a time. But there is no place for Hindus in those destinations. Hindus have no place even in Kashmir. So, Are we sure that this part of West Bengal will be a guaranteed home place for the Hindus at all ? If the whole of West Bengal turns as Park Circus, Metiabruz, Murshidabad, then where will the Bengali Hindus go further ? We have seen the helpless and hapless surrender of the West Bengal Govt. to the Muslim Fundamentalists time and again.
We have seen the episode of shattering the civil society in Kolkata 4 No. Bridge on 21/11/2007 in the case of expatriation of Taslima Nasrin. Now, the arrest of the editor, The Statesman, for reprinting of the article of Johann Hari, “ Why should I respect these oppressive religions ?”. The exclusive tyranny of the muslim fundamentalists in Kolkata is being much more evident through various issues. The Imam Barkati of Tipu Sultan Masjid could not be arrested for his open declaration of the fatwa of Qwatal, a direct instigation for murdering Taslima. But the editor of The Statesman, has been arrested for reprinting of J Hari’s article published in The Statesman, which was published earlier in The Independent, London.
This is the rock bottom reality of Law and Order situation in West Bengal. When the State Govt. is totally un-capable to protect its police contingents, they will never be able to protect us anyway. So, if We, the Hindus do not care for self-protection , this Bengal will see Dhantala in every village, Bantala in every locality. Nobody will come forward to the Bengali Hindus anyway.
We the activists of Hindu Samhati have gathered here for the observance of our 1st anniversary, it is not just the time to mere observe the same, it is the time to take an OATH. It is not mere the time of jubilation; it is time to stand firm to take a resolution to start Action. This firm resolution gives us the Courage. And this Courage is the source of all Power as required.
The Hindu Samhati Activists took these oaths as below :-·
- We will not tolerate any displacement of any Hindu from Hindusthan.
- We shall not allow any injustice, torture and humiliation upon Hindus.
- The dignity of Hindu Mothers and sisters are much more valuable than our life. We will save the dignity of them even at cost of our life.
- We must not allow our sisters to other religion.
- We will protect our God & Goddesses and their Temples at the cost of our life. We shall surely resist the decrease of Hindu population.
- We shall never indulge the access of any Bangladeshi Infiltrators anyway in this land.
- We will struggle for the Justice till last breath.
- Never shall We compromise with any injustice, even We be beheaded, but shall not retreat never, never.
- Never We shall bend our Head , never shall not tolerate humiliation, never flee anyway. We shall fight up to the last breath. We shall follow the Sermon of Lord Sri Krishna as delivered to Arjuna in Shloka 37 of Chapter II of Bhagabad Gita .--- ‘Win or the death is desirable. Defeat, flee or humiliation – always a matter of shame .’

Since the article under the banner, "Why should I respect these oppressive religions?" has been published also in The Statesman, Kolkata Edn. on 05/02/09, the illegal Bangladeshi Muslims are trying to establish their strength of criminality through a repeated road show along with their urdu speaking counterpart.
This is not a new thing to Kolkata civil soceity as the same frenzy people deadlocked the Kolkata Life Line over the issue related to the extermination of Dr. Taslima Nasrin, the humanist writer of Bangladesh who took her shelter at Kolkata being driven out from her Motherland 'Bangladesh' by the same muslim fundamentalist. It dates back only to 21/11/2007.
Earlier, such fundamentalists have issued various 'fatwas' against Salman Russhdie or Anwar Seikh or to many others for their capital punishment, very much sanctioned by some brute and blind followers of Islam.
But it is shocking to say that no columnist in the Statesman group articulated nothing against the wrong side of the miscreant muslims in Kolkata. Even they reported the matter very reluctantly without pointing the misrule of the local Govt. to control such situation and the apathy of all the political parties aspirant of muslim vote bank.
As a result of that the muslim hooligans and the 'Jehadi' young forces are making its trailer in Kolkata to produce a full length film like Great Calcutta Killing in 1946. We are giving our full support to make it very easily as we are not conveying our full support in favour of our right to express our opinion supporting civilization, liberty and equality. In most of the cases we fear the fundamentalists than to support the oppressed. We should justify the history of torture and oppression caused by both Islam, Christianity or any semitic religion in many ways. If we love humanity or honour the freedom, we should condemn the fundamentalists in Kolkata, Karachi or any where.
I request J. Hari to send his reactions directly to The Statesman, Kolkata over the issue...''Why Should I respect.....?" I really interrogate myself, WHY SHOULD I RESPECT ISLAM ?

Kolkata Muslims only for Palestine Not for Mumbai Victims,.. The Bengali Muslims want to slay Johann Hari or Taslima.
“Why should I respect these oppressive religions?
The right to criticise religion is being slowly doused in acid. Across the world, the small, incremental gains made by secularism ~ giving us the space to doubt and question and make up our own minds ~ are being beaten back by belligerent demands that we “respect” religion. A historic marker has just been passed, showing how far we have been shoved. The UN rapporteur who is supposed to be the global guardian of free speech has had his job rewritten: to put him on the side of the religious censors.

Paralysis, the Kolkata city’s password
Anger & apathy clog artery
BY A STAFF REPORTER
The heart of the city was clogged for four hours on Tuesday, but no one really cared.
No one apart from the hundreds of hapless commuters caught between belligerent protesters determined to create maximum traffic chaos and a paralysed police force doing precious little to unclog the arteries.
On Wednesday it happened to be a protest meeting by around 5,000 Jamiat-e Ulema Hind supporters, but on other days it hardly takes a handful at Metro channel — opposite Metro cinema — to hold the city to ransom.
All because the law that debars a thoroughfare from being used as a protest platform is not enforced.
Why? Because no one in this city really cares.
The rulebook allows Lalbazar to sanction rallies near Shahid Minar, that too after the organisers have obtained a no-objection certificate from the army which is the custodian of the Maidan area.
But 20-24 meetings are allowed to be held every month in Metro channel, ensuring maximum effect with minimum effort for protesters seeking to disrupt traffic and grab attention.
From 10.30am on Wednesday, supporters of the Jamiat-e Ulema Hind started descending on Metro channel from the city and the districts.
Their agenda? Protest the policies of Israel and punish the Calcutta commuter.
The cops at Esplanade caught napping by the “unexpected turnout” were outnumbered and outwitted by the protesters who soon overran both flanks in front of Metro cinema and paralysed traffic at the vital intersection.
“We had no clue so many people would come for the rally. We had no option but to barricade several approach roads, causing traffic snarls on Chowringhee, Red Road, SN Banerjee Road, Lenin Sarani and Central Avenue,” admitted an officer on duty.
With nothing official about holding a meeting in Metro channel — after all, no official permission can be given — an organisation normally checks with the office of the deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) whether the venue is free on a given day. Then, details of the meeting are sent to the police headquarters, which in turn is forwarded to the Special Branch of the city police where a rough estimate of the turnout is calculated. Based on that, police arrangements are made and traffic diversions planned.
A senior police officer blamed Wednesday’s traffic chaos on the protesters holding a sit-in-demonstration on both flanks on Chowringhee.
But why clog Metro channel? Why not, countered Siddiqullah Chowdhury of the Jamiat-e Ulema Hind. “If Biman Bose and Mamata Banerjee can hold rallies here why can’t we?”
Which brings us back to the basics — why don’t the police take action against Metro channel marauders?
“We can take legal action against those obstructing a thoroughfare but we don’t because even the ruling party is guilty,” an officer admitted.
After all, no one in this city really cares.

Home Ministry is perturbed over reports of disappearance of Bangladeshis after their arrival in India.
New Delhi & Kolkata: The Home Ministry of West Bengal is not taking the issue seriously. But the Central Home Ministry is perturbed over the continuous reports of overstaying and disappearance of Bangladeshis after their arrival in the country with more than 70,000 people travelling on valid documents still missing since 2006 in addition to illegal immigrants. Most of these Bangladeshi over stayers and the illegal infiltrators are trying to make their own MINI BANGLADESHI HOME LAND at Delhi, Maharashtra and obviously in West Bengal. The situation is alarming in one word.
Home Ministry officials said on an average about 21,000 Bangladeshi nationals, who come with regular visas, either go missing or have been overstaying every year in the country.
This is in addition to the scores of illegal immigrants who regularly cross the porous Indo-Bangla border. In fact, the Indo-Bangla border in West Bengal is now controlled by the Trans Border Bangladeshi Mafia Dons and the majority Bangladeshi Muslims there. “For overstaying, we have deported 15,000 Bangladeshi nationals in 2005, 12,000 Bangladeshis in 2006 and 11,500 in 2007,” a Home Ministry official said.
In addition to that, 25,712 out of five lakh Bangladeshi nationals who came to India, did not return after expiry of their visas in 2007 while more than 24,000 remained missing in 2006 when 4.84 lakh had entered India with valid travel documents.
Interestingly, the BSF, which guards the 4,095-km-long porous Indo-Bangla border, has recently disclosed that 12 lakh Bangladeshis, who had entered India between 1972 and 2005 with valid documents, have not returned home.
The Central Government has adopted a multi-pronged approach to contain infiltration from Bangladesh which is posing serious security threat as probe in almost all recent serial blasts in different parts of the country has links to India's eastern neighbour, the official said.
The overall situation of Nadia, North 24 Parganas (specially in Bashirhat & Barasat Sub Divisions), South 24 Parganas ( specially in Kakdwip, Canning & Baruipur Sub Divisions), Kolkata ( in Raja Bazar, Khidderpur, Watt Gaunj, Park Circus areas) and other muslim majority areas has been worsened in the last few years due to "'minority'" appeasement by all the political parties in West Bengal, aiming only to muslim vote bank here. Many places in border districts like Nadia, Malda, Murshidabad, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, South & North 24 Parganas and near-border districts like Howrah, Kolkata and Birbhum have been captured by the Bangladeshi Muslims as their strong hold.
