FIR against Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for ‘hurting religious Sentiments’
STAFF WRITER 20:2 HRS IST Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Oct 5,2009 (PTI) :An FIR was today lodged here against West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for “hurting religious sentiments” on Sethu Samudram during a speech in 2007. The FIR was lodged at Sadar police station in the district on a directive of the Chief Judicial Magistrate. Advocate Sudhir Ojha, had on December 10, 2007, moved the court of the then Chief Judicial Magistrate Ram Daras seeking legal action against Bhattacharjee for his reported statement in Kolkata on December 7 that year. Bhattacharjee had reportedly said “Ram bhagwan nahin hai (Rama is not God)… Ramayana is not a Hindu epic and Ram setu manav nirmit.” Ojha had accused the chief minister of hurting religious sentiments by his statement. Dasras, had on June 26, 2008, directed the officer in-charge of Sadar police station to probe into the matter and report.
